OK, so you’re driving along and suddenly the car starts feeling rough and judders and then the dreaded ‘Check Engine’ warning appears.

This could be one of many things. However, by far the most common problem is the coil packs. Over time (and miles) these coil packs break down as they get incredibly hot due to their position in the engine (next to the exhaust). Once the insulation on the coil pack cracks due to the constant change in temperature, the coil pack is open to the elements e.g. splash from rain water on the road surface or moisture within the cold air, the coil packs handle HT voltage, so when water penetrates – you get misfires… which is why this issue is much more common in the late Autumn, Winter and early Spring months!
Below you can see a great example of how bad these coil packs can get.. if your car has been serviced routinely, especially if the spark plugs have been changed according to schedule – your coil packs should not end up in this state.

Of course, it may not be the coil packs causing the misfire, if you are unsure and need further advice, or would like to have one of our Porsche-experienced technicians look at your car – give us a call on 0113 468 6020 and we’ll be happy to help.
